In 1964, while attending the Sword of the Lord Conference at the Highland Park Baptist Church in Chattanooga, Tenn., I heard soul-stirring messages from men like John R. Rice, Jack Hyles, Tom Malone, and Harold Sightler. At that time I could not say how clear they were on the gospel but they sure motivated me to be used of God. I was challenged to work in the bus ministry by Dr. Parker with Gardener Gentry, Billy Driskel, and others while a student at Tennessee Temple Schools under Dr. Lee Roberson.
Betty has been slowly improving from her injuries to her leg in Wyoming in April. So we left Tampa on Monday 20 of July. She stayed with our daughter, Trina, in Georgia while I attended the Sword Conference last week in Walker-town, North Carolina.
Thanks to everyone for your many prayers for my wife. She is slowly improving.
The Sword is known for having great crowds, great music, and lots of preachers from everywhere, I was pleasantly surprised when on the first day and every session thereafter, Dr. Sheldon Smith was promoting a book called "Keeping Grace in the Gospel".
Dr. Shelton Smith, editor of the Sword of the Lord
When you hear about a 100 voice choir singing the old hymns, it makes you wonder what Heaven will sound like when no one holds back and sings with perfect voices.
I have known of Chris Shepler for over 40 years. He was a student of Florida Bible College about 8 years after I graduated in 1968. After I read his book from cover to cover, I was totally impressed how close he stayed to the teachings we received at Florida Bible College. All FBC students should be proud of the way it preserves our gospel legacy and of the publication and promotion of the book by Dr. Shelton Smith. I am proud of the love shown for the clarity of the gospel by Chris and expressed by Dr. Shelton to help all preachers have more power in the gospel.
Dr. Chris Shepler was also the youth director for three years for Dr. Hank Lindstrom who also graduated from the Florida Bible College and founded the Tampa Youth Ranch (where Hulk Hogan trusted the Lord) and the Calvary Community Church where I served after Hank's passing. I would like to encourage every Bible-student to get a copy of this book over all others.
Remember; it's all about the gospel.
