I would state that more than 90% of so-called gospel messages are inadequate for a person to understand on how to get to Heaven. Clarity is only possible when suffient truth is proclaimed. This is a message I preached at the 2023 commencement for the Florida Bible College.

A.    To believe in Christ, one must hear the story of the gospel.

Many teach that this verse is sufficient for a person to know he is saved from Hell and to know he will go to Heaven without giving any other information.  John 6:47  Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

1.    DOES YOUR GOSPEL INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING?

a.     Does it mention sin or that you cannot save yourself?

b.     Does it mention Heaven or Hell?

c.      Does it mention the Death, Burial, or Resurrection?

d.     Does it state who I or HE refers to?

e.     Does it state if everlasting life is referring to living forever in Heaven or Hell?

f.       What if I don’t want to live forever? So what!!!

g.     Does it mention the payment for our sin?

h.     Does it mention receiving forgiveness of sins?

i.        Does it mention what happens if the person fails to believe?

j.        Does it mention what it means to believe or state what to believe?

2.     Assuming this verse is telling us that Christ will give everlasting life to anyone who believes in him, we must also assume that no one can receive this life until after they have heard the Gospel. To believe in him, one must hear, understand, and receive Christ as Savior.

B.     Verses that say the same thing but in other words. Verses that need to be explained.

1.     Joh 1:12  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name

2.     Joh 1:29  The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

3.     Joh 3:3  Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

4.     Joh 3:5  Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

5.     Joh 3:15  That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

6.     Joh 3:16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life(more info)

7.     Joh 3:36  He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him(Notice Results if not believed).

1.     Joh 4:14  But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

2.     Joh 5:24  Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life(Notice the additional info)

4.     Joh 6:35  And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

5.     Joh 6:40  And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

6.     Joh 6:51  I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

7.     Joh 6:54  Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

Joh 6:47  Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

The wallet illustration

Only when you believe the story of what Christ DID can you believe what Christ said. Everlasting Life is given to those who believe the story of his WHAT and WHY of his Death, Burial, and Resurrection.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY
