Betty and I spent some time with Earlene Mathias in Carbondale, Colorado. She was the wife of the great Jack Mathias mentioned by Greg Stier of Dare to Share Ministries.

"Ralph “Yankee” Arnold and his wonderful wife Betty came to @dare2shareministries yesterday and it was powerful. He spoke at our weekly chapel service on the power of the simple Gospel and got our small team of 30 fired up!
He’s been nicknamed “Yankee” his whole life because his dad, a counterfeiter and bootlegger from the backwoods of Georgia, fled to Pennsylvania from the authorities and it was there Yankee was born. That’s why his dad gave him the nickname Yankee. Actually, his dad called him “@$!# Yankee” and his mom called him “Yankee boy.”
He was radically saved at the age of 18 and, after attending Florida Bible College, came to Arvada, Colorado where he launched a Youth Ministry (Christian Youth Ranch), planted a church (Colorado Bible Church) and started a Christian School (Arvada Christian School.)
During his outreach efforts he reached my toughest uncle, Uncle Jack, with the simple Gospel. One by one my entire family full of tough guys were radically saved.

As for me, I was a scared, scarred fatherless kid who didn’t fit into my tough guy family (think Young Sheldon being raised by the Sons of Anarchy.) But all of a sudden, I’m in Yankee’s youth ministry, church and Christian School. All of a sudden I have everything a young teen needs: identity, belonging and purpose.
Yankee trained me to share the Gospel and I was able to lead my Ma to Christ at the age of 15. Yankee and his leaders trained me to preach then let me preach (as a young teen) in “big church.” Yankee gave me a vision for the power of the Gospel and potential of teenagers. Almost 5 decades later that is still what I’m obsessively focused on.
And I wasn’t the only one. He raised up countless young disciples to make disciples who made disciples who are still making disciples to this day.
Pray for Yankee and Betty as they travel in their RV across the nation preaching the clear and simple Gospel of grace. Pray for his YouTube channel (@Yankee Arnold ministries) continue to explode (over 500,000 views in the last 28 days!)
He’s 84 years old, has suffered two heart attacks and is determined to reach as many as possible for Christ before he passes into glory.
